BUS Projects is seeking a Gallery Manager

BUS Projects is seeking a Gallery Manager for their gallery space at Donkey Wheel House in the Melbourne CBD. This is a paid contractor position with a minimum contracted period of one year. The successful applicant will be engaged for 10 hours per week at $20 per hour.


The Gallery Manager is the primary point of contact for all artists working with BUS Projects, as well as the first point of contact for external enquiries such as media, exhibition and program queries. The Gallery Manager reports regularly to the BUS Projects Committee and is present at monthly Committee meetings.

Responsibilities include: exhibition coordination and liaison with artists up until and during exhibitions, event management (openings and special events), preparing media releases, updating web content regularly, general administration, overseeing installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, attending monthly Committee meetings, some assistance with grant writing, report writing and management of the volunteers and interns, basic book-keeping using Xero accounting software (training will be provided).

After 10 years of operation in 2011 BUS Projects established their new space in the historic Donkey Wheel House and presented a strong artistic program within the gallery, as well as special projects offsite in Melbourne and Athens. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of Melbourneʼs longest running and most innovative artist-run initiatives.

Essential selection criteria
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities
- Experience working in a gallery or artist-run initiative
- Solid computer competency (including Excel, Word, Photoshop, Wordpress and basic book-
keeping skills)
- A strong understanding of the artist-run and/or not-for-profit arts sector.

Desirable selection criteria
- Prior project/arts management experience

Hours: 10 hours per week @ $20 an hour
