About Bus
Bus Projects is an independent art space with a focus on artists engaged in a spatial art practice. That is, any practice that uses its environment as a context to its staging such as sound art, performance, installation, video and the cross-pollination of these forms.

Who are we?
Bus Projects is run by a bunch of very talented, very good looking, and very under-paid people because we love art and the people who make it. Here’s who we are:
Drew Pettifer – Gallery Manager (Staff)
Drew Pettifer is a practicing artist, curator, arts worker and qualified solicitor. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours – First Class) in Cultural Studies from The University of Melbourne, a Master of Arts (Arts Management) from RMIT University and a Graduate Certificate in Visual Art from the VCA. He was a board member of Blindside Artist Run Space between 2008 and 2010 and a panelist on the City of Melbourne Arts Grants Assessment Panel in 2009. Recent curatorial work includes: Debut VI at Blindside Artist Run Space (2010), City of Melbourne Artist Run Initiatives at Art Melbourne (2009) and curtain Call at Blindside Artist Run Space (2009). Drew is currently Gallery Manager of Bus Projects.
Tim Webster – Chair (Board member)
Tim Webster is a practicing artist and Chair of the Bus Projects board. In 2009 Tim also served as Bus Projects Director and spearheaded the organisation’s restructure. His video and installation works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in festivals and galleries throughout Melbourne including Blindside Gallery, Bus Projects, Kings Gallery and Seventh Gallery. As an artist, he has received support from Federation Square, Footscray Community Arts Centre, The City of Melbourne and Arts Victoria. He has worked with a number of arts organisations including the Australian Centre for the Moving Image coordinating public program events, Footscray Community Art Centre and The South Project.
Tim Beveridge – Vice Chair (Board member)
Tim has been involved in the Melbourne arts scene for almost a decade playing pivotal roles in various artistic projects, mainly focusing on theatre and music. Bus is his first foray into the ARI sector. Professionally, Tim is a prominent figure in the advertising and marketing industries and adds a valuable business skills set to the Bus Projects community.
Dr. Amelia Douglas – Curator (Board member)
Dr Amelia Douglas works as a curator and arts writer in Melbourne. Her research focus is on time-based contemporary art. Amelia is on the editorial committee of Un Magazine, is a founding editor of emaj (electronic Melbourne art journal), and has worked on numerous arts projects and events both independently and within broader cultural organisations (including ACMI, Experimenta, Biennale of Sydney). In 2008, she was awarded her PhD in art history on the contemporary French artist Pierre Huyghe from the University of Melbourne, where she also occasionally lectures on contemporary art.
Georgina Russell – Marketing Manager (Board member)
Georgina Russell has worked in a variety of marketing and sponsorship roles in the arts and not-for-profit sector including the Perth International Arts Festival, community radio station RTRFM, Melbourne Fringe and the National Gallery of Victoria, where she is currently employed. She also spent several years living in the UK working in media, public relations and independent television production. Georgina completed a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) in 1994 and has since gained additional qualifications in Arts Management. Her expertise extends from all areas of arts marketing to developing and managing relationships with industry stakeholders such as corporate sponsors, government and artists.
Alice Mrongovious – Treasurer (Board member)
Alice Mrongovious was inspired to obtain her Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting) after working with emerging fashion designers and seeing exceptionally talented people run aground through financial mismanagement. Alice has operated her own business, Bandit Fox, since 2001, producing and selling comic books, clothes and accessories as well as managing commissions and grants. As a practicing artist, she understands the financial constraints, implications and opportunities this occupation incurs. Alice’s financial planning and accounting skills are an invaluable asset for the Bus board.

Nyx Matthews – Intern
Nyx is a Melbourne-based artist with a background in student politics, journalism and writing, and small business. Her aim is to create a culture that both allows the volunteer-dependant aspects of the gallery (such as events and openings) to run smoothly, and perforates the established ARI structure to draw new people and their ideas into the organisation, to the benefit of the gallery and the broader art community.
Jen Broadhurst – Intern
Having returned to Australia after some years abroad, Jennifer Broadhurst is keen to begin establishing herself as a practising artist here in Melbourne as well as build her repertoire within the contemporary arts community. In 2010 she was accepted into Monash University, Caulfield, to study a Bachelor of Fine Arts (painting).
Sara Austin – Volunteer
Sara has a vast range of experience in arts and music event management in the UK. After leaving school she instigated and ran for nine years a music and arts festival, bringing household names to a small rural town. Emerging herself in music management, she represented acclaimed singer-songwriter Thea Gilmore for 10 years, negotiating two major record deals and three major publishing deals, securing seven albums and top 40 chart success. During this time Gilmore played all the major UK festivals including, V Festivals and Glastonbury, touring the USA and Canada several times, once with legendary musician Joan Baez. As Director of Manchester’s Song Writers and Performers Festival, Sara helped stage several high profile events with top national and international recording artists culminating in a 6,000 capacity open-air city centre concert.
Sara instigated and directed a multi disciplinary arts festival which included headliners The Wombats and Guillemots amongst others. In the first two years the event raised over £250,000 to present a range of visual arts, music and literary events as well as a cross city community project led by 22 artists and involving over 1000 local people. As project and PR consultant for newly established contemporary art gallery Airspace, Sara worked with a range of established national and international artists and securing the gallery their first national review. She is constantly in demand both in Australia and the UK as a consultant for emerging musicians and event management and strategy advice.
