Dominic Kavanagh

Dominic Kavanagh’s research focuses on the nature and existence of Urban Ruin and how it is perceived within Western societies. On a recent field trip to New York City, he spent time photographing and documenting many examples of Urban Ruin throughout its precincts. He owe’s much of his inspiration for his “Requiem for Urban Ruin” exhibition to that period spent in NYC.

Recent exhibitions reflect this subject area in both media and presentation: ‘The Rebellious Garden Shed’, exhibited at Seventh Gallery Fitzroy, 2008; and ‘Ensconced’ as part of a group show at Monash Faculty Gallery, Caulfield, 2008. The work for “Requiem for Urban Ruin” reveals the latest example to an ongoing body of work engaging this theme.
