Fernando Ariel Gallardo


Fernando completed a Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies at Victoria University of Technology in 2005. During his time there he produced two multi disciplinary shows: STUK a la carte performance (2004) and STUK 2 (2005), both of which he was artistic director, co-coordinator and performer.

Fernando performed his work Scenes from a Party at Dancehouse in 2005.

He took part in the performance installation work Half Full of Happiness (2002) for the performance collective Red Cabbage at Gasworks Melbourne, and has also acted and sung in various other festivals and community events.

Fernando completed his Graduate Diploma in Animateuring at the Victorian College of the Arts. During his time there he was part of Navigators, a multi disciplinary event as part of the 2006 Melbourne International Arts Festival.

2007 saw Fernando perform in the Golem of Ruckers Hill with Platform Youth theatre, Songs of Ourselves (a VCA Masters Project), and a meditation on reconciliation.

Also in 2007 Fernando co founded the company With The Teeth and created the work I’ve Written a Letter to Daddy as part of the 2007 Melbourne Fringe Festival. In the 2007 Melbourne International Arts Festival, Fernando was a part of John Cage’s Musicircus and performed the work Concrete/Hormigon, a vocal work for harpsichord.

In 2008 Fernando performed a second season of I’ve Written a Letter to Daddy at The Butterfly Club and be part of artist’s Gabrielle De Vietri’s work for New 08 entitled Songs to People in my Life Saying Things That I Couldn’t Otherwise Say at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art as a vocalist/arranger/musician.

Fernando as part of duo Beautiful Rubble took the work Concrete/Hormigon to the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts as part of the 2008 Putting on an Act Festival where they proceeded to win the inaugural City Of Perth Award For Most Innovative Act. 2008 and also saw the work Expire: Double Bill be presented at Dante’s for which they were Highly Commended at The Fringe Awards.

2009 has so far seen his solo work The Man In The Corridor be presented as part of Midsumma 09 at The Butterfly Club which due to its success is having a return season in May. Fernando continues his work as a lyricist, musician, performer as part of duo Beautiful Rubble and is currently working on his upcoming performances for the Autumns Music Festival with highlights from Expire: Double Bill and new material to be presented alongside at The Malthouse and at With The Lot a multidisciplinary event  to be presented in a car park space in affiliation with Lucy Guerin inc.
